Getting Around Turku: Transport Guide

By news desk on September 12,2007

Cars can be hired from the many car rental agencies in Turku, and are a convenient way of getting around town, especially if you want to beat your own path or do some travelling in the countryside. Alternatively, you can use the city’s public transport - an extensive network of buses that covers virtually every square inch of the city. Buses have a system of electronic ticketing, and if you’re planning to do a lot of travelling, it’s a good idea to buy one of the 24-hour or 48-hour tickets (known as the Turku Card), available at bus stations. Probably the best value-for-money deal around, these tickets entitle you to free entry to most museums, unlimited travel on buses, and discounts at certain shops, pubs and restaurants.

Other than buses, Turku also has taxis, which can be hailed on the street, taken from a taxi rank or phoned for (dial 100 41 for a taxi).
