Manchester Travel Guide

A bit like Birmingham, Manchester too was one of the cities of Central England which made its fortunes during the years of the Industrial Revolution. The city was, during the 18th and 19th centuries, one of England’s most prosperous centres of manufacturing, industry and commerce - and also a city overflowing with the byproducts of prosperity- slums, crime, filth and poverty grew side by side with opulence and wealth.
Today though, Manchester has done an about-turn. The city has made a concerted effort to polish up its image and change itself- and has succeeded. Present-day Manchester is one of the UK’s liveliest cities, with a vibrant cultural scene, and lots to see and do. Little wonder then, that more and more tourists every year make it a part of their itineraries.
