Hiring a car from one of the car rental agencies in town is perhaps the most convenient way of getting around the city, especially if you’re planning to visit some of the sights that are on the outskirts of Manchester. Alternatively, you could take a cab - there are about 10 cab ranks located across the city, and taxis can be hailed on the street or phoned for.
If your budget doesn’t allow you to indulge in a rented car or a taxi, you should consider taking a tram. Manchester has one of the best and most modern tram networks in Europe, with trams running from 6 am to 10 pm on weekdays, every 6 minutes (on Sundays the frequency is less, as are the hours). Tram tickets are much more economical than taxi fares and trams cover almost all of Manchester, so it’s a good idea to stick to trams if you want to do affordable sightseeing. Even more affordable is making your way around on foot - the city centre is small enough to walk around in, and most tourist attractions are spread around that area, so if you like walking, here’s where you can do it.
