Weights & Measures
Metric system applies.
Electricity
220 volts, 50HZ. Here too, please carry your own adaptors. It is mainly the European two-pin plug that you will find.
Post & Communications
International posts are available but are subject to much delay. IDD is available in Yerevan only. One can call the CIS countries using the appropriate code, but only with difficulty. Some hotels and many businesses now have satellite links.
Tipping
Expected by waiters and doormen in restaurants, tipping is sometimes required in advance to ensure service. Visitors, please be aware that taxi fares are unreasonably high because of the expectation that foreigners will have unlimited cash and little idea of how much they ought to be paying! So, please take the trouble to find out the "going rates".
