March, April, May, September, October and November comprise the peak tourist season. Of these September is the warmest month with daytime temperatures averaging at 23.1º C and nights at a nippy 15º C. The coolest of these months are March and November, with March being generally colder than November. Average temperatures for March are 16.4º C and 3.9º C. It is a good idea to avoid the monsoon months June, July and August. Winters are cold in the Thimphu Valley, with maximum temperatures in January dipping all the way to 12.3º C on average. Night temperatures routinely go below freezing point.
October and November are the months of choice for being in Thimphu. Rains are the least likely in these months, which affords the visitor clear views of mountain vistas and lots of opportunities to tramp through a cool but sunny city. In the low season, December, January, February, June, July and August, the daily tariff of USD 200 is revised downwards to USD 165 per person per night, if the group has at least four people. Alternately, you might schedule your travel around a festival.
