Maharashtra: Tourist Entertainment Guide

The state of Maharashtra has a rich multi faceted cuisine that encompasses the delicate flavours of the local Maharashtrian vegetarian food, the hot and spicy Kolhapuri cuisine and the fragrant coconut and kokum based seafood and fish dishes from coastal Konkan. The urban centres with their population of Parsis, Christians, Iranis and Muslims offer beef, chicken, meat, fish and pork dishes as well as freshly baked breads, cakes and biscuits. The urban centres also serve a variety of international cuisines like Chinese, Italian, French, Thai and Japanese food in elegant restaurants. For the budget strapped, Maharashtrian cities have innumerable street vendors, Irani cafes, small restaurants, bars and other low cost eating places.

While entertainment options in the smaller towns are limited to cinema houses and the odd show of folk dance, folk theatre or musical performances, much more is on offer in the bigger cities of Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. Mumbai and Pune are the cultural centres of the state with drama repertory companies staging excellent performances in English, Marathi, Gujurati and Hindi. Both cities also have contemporary modes of entertainment like bowling alleys, entertainment and theme parks, as well as discos, casinos, bars and pubs
