Eating Out In Ajmer

By news desk on July 07,2008

During the Urs, it is expected that you partake from the consecrated food cooked in huge cauldrons that were gifted to Dargah Sharif by Emperor Akbar. The cauldrons are so large that food has to be served by people standing within the cauldrons! And there?s no dearth of volunteers no less than Akbars son Jehangir served pilgrims with his own hands when he was the emperor.

In the lanes around the dargah, you'll find a number of roadside eateries specialising in biryanis. Among the city's better known restaurants is the multi-cuisine Honeydew on Station Road, established in 1962, which claims to be the first-ever air-conditioned restaurant in all of Rajasthan. Continental and Mughlai are on offer. Tandoor Restaurant on Jaipur Road is predictably famous for tandoori specialities, though Chinese and South Indian food are also served.

Gangaur Fast Food off Kutchery Road has burgers and pizzas. Another fast food option is Mango Masala Restaurant on Kutchery Road (Sardar Patel Marg), with pizzas, snacks, South Indian and Chinese food. Other options are Kanchas Restaurant on Pushkar Road and Eat and Enjoy on Srinagar Road. Both serve Indian and Chinese food.

For those who would prefer to dine at Ajmers hotels, there is the choice of enjoying a Rajasthani meal facing the lake at Sheesh Mahal, the restaurant at Hotel Mansingh Palace, accompanied by live music. Sheesh Mahal also offers Mughlai, Chinese and Continental, and has a bar called Sipha Salar. Hotel Khadims Nemad Khana Restaurant serves Indian, Chinese and Continental food. Opt to have your meal on the huge lawns. Silverleaf, the restaurant at Hotel Embassy, serves only vegetarian Indian and Chinese cuisine.
