The most awaited event in West Bengal is Durga Puja held in October with great pomp, gaiety and religious devotion.
Kolkata in the month of January holds a ten-day book fair (it is Asia’s largest book fair!) and the Kolkata Festival featuring ethnic food and cultural events. In the Sagar Island the Bathing Festival is held in January.

Shantiniketan holds three festivals-Magh Mela, the anniversary from 6-8 February, Vasantotsava the spring festival held on 20th March and Poush Mela the Annual Fair in December every year.

Kalimpong is gaily decorated by nature’s abundant pristine beauty saved in flowers in October during the Flower Festival.
The most intriguing is the Jhapan Festival held in Vishnupur in August. It is a festival for snake worship and the town gets infested with snake charmers who flock from all over India.
