What’s the best thing to eat in Lombok? Seafood. And fruit. And coconuts. Rice, of course; but seafood- if you like seafood, then you’re going to think Lombok’s paradise- or at least close to it.
You won’t find too many classy `fine dining’ restaurants in Lombok; but you will definitely find lots of places which serve good, wholesome food- much of it fairly cheap. Ampenan adjacent to Mataram, is the best place to go out for a meal- it has lots of eateries, including food stalls where you can get good Indonesian food at great prices. Beach resorts like Senggigi and Kuta have a range of restaurants and other eateries where you can often get food other than Indonesian.
Honestly speaking, Lombok doesn’t have very much to offer in the way of entertainment- you might be able to see a local movie in Mataram and its environs, but that is about all. The only place where there are any `organised’ recreational facilities is Senggigi beach, where the resorts have nightclubs, bars and discos with a fairly active nightlife.
If you like sports, then it’s a different matter- parts of Lombok, especially mountainous areas like Gunung Rinjani, offer excellent opportunities for treks. All along the coasts, there are very good beaches where you can swim, snorkel and windsurf to your heart’s content.
