Like most other places in South East Asia, Laos doesn’t have a paucity of places to eat. Large cities like Vientiane and Luang Prabang have a fairly good range of eating establishments. Vientiane especially is pretty well endowed with restaurants, beer halls, cafés and roadside stalls where you can get just about any Asian cuisine, in addition to local food. Even in smaller towns and villages, you’ll usually be able to find some street stall where local food is sold- invariably at extremely low prices.
Folk music, theatre (much of it pretty bawdy!) and folk dances are an integral part of most rural communities in Laos, and although `staged’ shows may not be very common, you’ll invariably get to see good performances during festivals and other occasions for celebration. Some of the larger hotels in Vientiane have cultural shows, or these may be held occasionally at other venues within Vientiane- keep an eye on the local newspapers for listings.
For nightlife, Vientiane is just about the only place in Laos- whatever beer halls and discotheques there are in Laos, are in the capital.
