Custom And Duty Guide For Malaysia

By news desk on November 01,2007

Travellers entering Malaysia may bring in, besides personal effects such as cosmetics, perfumes, watches, cameras, etc, 225 gm of tobacco (which may be in the form of cigars, cigarettes, or pure tobacco) and up to a quart of liquor, free of import duty. Occasionally, if dutiable goods are being brought into the country on the condition that they will be re-exported, a deposit (of about 50% of the value) might need to be given. An official receipt should always be obtained for this, and the amount is refundable at the time of departure. These duty-free items are not allowed on domestic flights or on flights from Singapore. Weapons, pornographic material and walkie-talkies are not allowed into Malaysia.

Narcotics Alert! Possession of drugs is punishable with the death sentence, and there isn’t any remittance of sentence either.

Remember that Sabah and Sarawak have their own border controls, and you’ll have to go through Customs again if you’re going to either of these two states.
