Shopping In Kuala Lumpur: An Insight

By news desk on November 01,2007

Kuala Lumpur has plenty of glittering modern mall complexes on Jalan Putra and at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre at the base of the Petronas Towers on Jalan Ampang. An area crammed with literally everything from clothes and jewellery to handicrafts and international consumer goods is the city’s main shopping hub in Bukit Bintang.

The most exclusive and the latest items are usually to be found in the `Golden Triangle’, in the southern quadrant of the city, while the `Golden Mile’ is known for good but inexpensive stuff. Other places great fun to shop in, are the Central Market also a cultural venue, and the night markets where hawkers and vendors come in droves. Although prices at the large department stores are fixed, don’t shy from bargaining at the markets- you are expected to do so.

If you’re interested in handicrafts, the Karyaneka Handicraft Village is another good place to pick up some fine examples of local crafts.
