Kuala Lumpur's most famous landmark are the Petronas twin towers, but there's plenty more to see in this city. A good glimpse into the country's history and culture is at the National Museum.    National Mosque at night, Kuala Lumpur

Built on the site of the old Selangor Museum, the National Museum has a good collection of exhibits, including some interesting sections on the Nonya culture. The royal palace, the Istana Negara is the official residence of the Yang di Pertuan Ayung and the Raja Permaisuri Ayung. The palace is built on a hill and was used as a Japanese officers’ mess during World War II.

Chinatown, Little India and Kampung Baru are respectively, the Chinese, Indian and Malay sectors of town. All very vibrant and colourful and the perfect place to buy ethnic handicrafts, sample local specialties, and experience ethnic Kuala Lumpur at close quarters.

A large stretch of greenery and natural beauty, The Lake Gardens are a complex of parks and gardens, including the Orchid Garden with a whopping 3000 species of orchids, the Deer Park, the Bird Park and the Butterfly Park -the largest in the world. Also in the same league is the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, a patch of greenery with birds, monkeys and other creatures.

Other than these sights, there are Hindu and Buddhist temples, mosques -the most famous being the National Mosque, and, on the outskirts of the city, tin mines and rubber plantations.
