Cebu Island Habitat Guide

By news desk on November 09,2007

image
Cebu Island is part of the Visaya archipelago, just about an hour as the crow flies from the island of Luzon, which lies to its north and with the island of Mindanao closer south. The island of Cebu is characterized by narrow coastline opening out to a fertile coastal plain with limestone plateaus, rolling hills and rugged mountain ranges traversing the island from north to south. Although Cebu has high mountains reaching over 1,000 m, the island has extremely poor forest cover. Cebu is a complex of three cities and six municipalities with a population of more than a million people comprising a cosmopolitan mix of ethnic Filipinos with Chinese, American and European influences.
