There are world class hotels that have restaurants to cater to every taste bud! The budget tourist can eat cheaply at Indian and Pakistani restaurants serving biryani, or street food such as shwarma. In Dubai and to some extent in Abu Dhabi, you can get inexpensive oriental food. Non-alchoholic drinks like soft drinks, fruit juices and mineral water are available. Alcohol is only sold in restaurants and bars attached to hotels (three star and above) but prices are exorbitant.
Western theatre companies regularly visit the UAE and perform in the five star hotels. Most cinemas in UAE show Indian or Pakistani movies, though the odd theatre screens western movies as well. In Dubai you can dance the night away in discos at the larger hotels.
The most spectacular sport in UAE is camel racing that takes place in various places (Dubai, Al-Ain and Ras al-Khaimah) in winter on Friday mornings.
Water sports are popular throughout UAE and the tourist industry is busy creating an image of UAE as a "winter/sea-and-sun destination." As most water sport activities are available only at big hotels or private clubs, budget tourists don’t have access to it. UAE has several dive centers that are attached to large hotels. The manicured golf courses in Dubai and Ai-Ain have real grass and golf is an expensive but popular sport.
