Pucón (Mapudungun: "entrance of the cordillera") is a Chilean city and municipality (comuna) located in the Province of Cautín, Araucanía Region, 100 km to the southeast of Temuco and 780 km to the south of Santiago, Chile.

Pucón's unrivaled location by a lake and a volcano and quite stable weather (especially in the summer) make it a popular destination for tourists. It offers a variety of sports and adventure/recreational activities for tourists, including water skiing, snow skiing, backpacking, white water rafting and kayaking, natural hot springs, zip line rides, and guided ascents of Villarrica volcano.

Pucón is famous for three things: the lake, the volcano and access to every kind of outdoor sport imaginable. How often do you find a small town smack in between a divinely blue lake and a perfectly conical volcano? Just to add to the effect, the volcano's crater spends most of the day billowing smoke - and on clear nights it gives off an eerie red glow.
