Eating out is a fairly new concept in Trinidad. Luxury usually reads good food and there is little stress on ambience in most places. Cuisine ranges from Chinese to Creole and Indian to European. The usual range of international fast food chains as well as local fast food joints offer the usual and sometimes unimaginative menu. Street hawkers offer eatables (often quite sumptuous and fairly hygienic) around every corner. Usually eating joints are open till quite late till in the night.

If you’re a night bird, this is the place to meet more of your own kind. There are live music performances in most hotels and local joints. Music is accompanied by dancing so carry your dancing shoes. There are a number of discotheques where you can see (and join!) the youngsters energetically jumping around. Apart from music you can spend the evening watching a movie or play in one of the cinemas or theatres. During the carnival time, the island is bustling with activity and it goes on through the night.

Shopping

Shop to your heart's content in the shopping malls sprawled over the town, especilly those lining Independence Square. Special buys would include steel drums, calypso music and jewellery. Local crafts and straw baskets make good presents to take back home, as also silks and batik garments.
