The Caribbean dream begins and ends with lazing on the beach and returning with a suntan. The sandy beaches of Puerto Rico are not going to disappoint you. Undoubtedly, San Juan has the best beaches. The long stretch from Conando to Isla Verde is covered with fine white sand washed over by the calm warm waters of the Atlantic Sea. There are rows of small bars along the beach where you can sit and enjoy a quite meal or drink. Vendors parade up and down renting or selling various beach accessories. There are a number of water sport organisers as well. The Ocean Park beach is less active so if you’re looking for privacy, this is the place to be. Beaches on the Northern coast are washed over by rougher waves than those in the south. In winters, most of the northern beaches are relatively empty. East of San Juan is Luquillo that has a peaceful beach lined with palm trees and offers lovely views. About a kilometre west of San Juan is La Playa de Luquillo Beach that tends to get rather crowded on weekends. The beach is equipped with showers, toilets, bars and shops you’d love to browse through. Boqueron in the west and Punta Guilarte in the south are other beaches worth a visit. |
