Cairo Entertainment guide

Finding food at any time should not be any problem at all in Cairo. The average Egyptian enjoys his/her snacks and meals and you should be able to do the same, provided you are at least a little experimental. Middle Eastern food like Ta’amiya, chawarma and fuul is readily available, and Cairo also offers a good representation of world cuisine.

There's plenty in the city to entertain vsitors. There are day-cruises down the tributaries of the Nile and camel safaris to acquaint the visitor with interesting aspects of the ancient Egyptian way of living. In the evening, there are several options from a felucca ride on the Nile and performances by belly dancers to the whirling dervishes (locally known as the raqs ash-sharqi) who perform every Wednesday and Friday at the Madrassa of Al-Ghouri in Cairo. Sufism is a Muslim mystical order that believes in direct communication with God through means such as ecstatic singing and dancing. The sound and light show at the base of the Sphinx is another great show stealer. All of Egypt's monuments by the Nile are illuminated by night for the many Nile cruisers. Nightclubs, casinos, cinemas and theatres complete the gamut of entertainment available in this cosmopolitan city.
