All nationals except nationals of most Arab countries and Malta require visas (cost – about US$28) to enter the country. Nationals of Israel are not allowed entry into the country and even if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport you will be stopped from entering the country. Visas for everybody else are processed through the Libyan People’s Bureau. The nationals of the countries of New Zealand, USA, UK, Canada and Australia also need a group tourist visa sponsored by a Libyan tour company. Countries without a Libyan People’s Bureau will normally have a Libyan Interests Section in another embassy. You will also need proof of yellow fever vaccination if arriving from an infected area. To apply for a one-month visa, you must get a your passport details translated into Arabic and written by hand along with an Arabic stamp, or your application will not be entertained. Upon arrival, foreigners have to register within 48 hours at a police station (on Sharia Baladiya in Tripoli). Do check with your hotel if they will register for you. |
