All across Albania, you’ll be able to find very basic places selling local foods- kebabs and other meat dishes are particularly popular - and wine. A square meal, even if not very fancy, will cost between US$ 5 and 10, and if you decide to treat yourself to an elaborate meal at one of the smart uptown restaurants of Tirana, you should be willing to shell out as much as US$ 20. Tirana and some of the other large cities are about the only places you’ll find international cuisine available, in the restaurants which dot the city. If you like the odd drink, some of the local brews might be worth a try- raki, uzo, and wine. Popular entertainment in Albania, at least in the cities, is largely restricted to the cinema and to a much lesser extent, theatre. You won’t find anything much in the way of 'night life’ in the country, but larger cities like Tirana usually have some sort of musical performances, plays, and other performing arts being staged. For listings, keep a lookout in the local newspapers. Folk arts- especially dances and musical performances- is generally seen only in rural areas, and that too on special occasions like festivals, weddings, and other social events. If you are lucky enough to be invited to one of these, don’t miss the chance.
