Within the Shetland Islands, there are regular ferries between the islands- the larger ones, and the popular tourist destinations- and boats can be hired too, if you want go off the beaten track. For travel on land, easily the best option is to hire a car (or a bicycle, if you’re up to it) and make your way around on your own- there are a number of car rental agencies, big and small, in Lerwick and Sumburgh. Alternatively, if you’d rather someone else did the driving, there is a bus service- although limited- operating on Mainland, and even though you may not be able to cover all the sights by bus, you’ll get to see most of the island. |
