Gdansk Tourist Activity Guide

Although Gdansk doesn’t  lie in the heart of unspoilt countryside where you can trek and climb all you want, there are opportunities within the city itself for some outdoor sports. Many large hotels have their own health clubs and swimming pools; and there are sports clubs, tennis courts and a local Academy of Physical Culture. In addition to these, the Gdansk Golf and Country Club is good for a day’s putting or walking; and a traipse through the Zoological Gardens can help you unwind after a hectic bout of sightseeing.

Gdansk’s proximity to the sea- and the local rivers- makes water sports its most popular form of outdoor activity. Although the sea is too polluted and usually too cold for much swimming, there’s plenty of scope for sailing, yachting and canoeing. At least three sports clubs in Gdansk offer canoeing facilities, and the port has nearly half-a-dozen yacht clubs.

If you must go hiking, take a bus to nearby Kashubia, where the wooded hills are great for tramping around in.
