Reaching Kiev: An Overview

By Air

Borispol International Airport, which is about 38 km from the city centre, is where most international flights arrive. Other than Air Ukraine and Ukraine International Airlines, a host of other international airlines operate flights to and from Kiev.  All of Europe’s larger capitals are linked to Kyiv by air. Even if you’re arriving from another continent, in most cases, a single changeover will be enough to get you to Kiev.

Kiev’s other airport, Zhuliany-Kyiv, is about 7 km from the city and handles domestic flights. Both Zhuliany-Kyiv and Borispol are connected to the city by bus and taxi.

By Train

Kiev’s sole international train station is located virtually in the heart of town, next to the Vokzalna metro station. It’s an important hub for trains from across Europe and Asia, with daily trains arriving from Berlin, St Petersburg, Moscow, Budapest, and other capitals in East Europe. Berlin is by far the best link to West Europe.

In addition to the international trains, there are regular domestic trains from other cities within Ukraine, including Odessa and Lviv.

By Road

Kiev lies at the intersection of some of Ukraine’s major highways, and there are regular buses to the city from all across the country- and beyond. It is, for instance, possible to get a bus from Moscow or St Petersburg to Kiev. Remember, however, that distances are vast in this part of the world, and even a trip from Moscow to Kiev can take a day or more.

By Waterways

Kiev’s River Terminal, on the Dnieper River, is located at the Poshtova Plosha subway station. The terminal acts as a landing post for hydrofoils and motorboats which come from as far as Cherkassy and the Black Sea.
