Troy,  a small city now in Turkey, is the centre of Homer’s immortal Iliad, the  stories of King Priam, Hector, Paris and the beautiful Helen. Helen was abducted by Paris and taken to Troy following which the Trojan War was fought. Troy became a real city after it was excavated in 1871. Excavations by Schliemann and others have revealed nine ancient cities, one on top of the other, dating back to 3000 BC.    Replica of the Trojan Horse

The  atmosphere is  charged with romance and legend, but  the only object representing those times is a fake replica of the mythical Trojan horse. Most of the ruins are of Roman Troy IX. Troy is open daily from 8 am to 5 pm (8 pm in summer).

Dolmus (shared taxis) from Cannakkale, which is linked by buses to most Turkish cities, connect you to Troy.
