Tourist Attractions In Izmir

Like any other Islamic city, Izmir has its interesting smattering of mosques, museums and monuments. Gaze at the gardens or muse in the museums – Izmir offers you a splendid choice, enough to keep you busy for at least two days.
In the midst of a maze of narrow streets in Izmir's bazaar district stands the exquisitely ornate 18th century mosque, the Konak Cami Mosque. The Archaeological Museum, near Konak Square, houses a superb collection of artefacts including the statues of Poseidon and Demeter.  Konak Cami Mosque

Neighboring the Archaeological Museum is the Ethnography Museum that contains folkloric artifacts such as a fine collection of Bergama and Gordes carpets, traditional costumes and camel bridles. The Ataturk Museum exhibits photographs of the leader as well as some of his personal belongings.
Roman Agora  The excavations at Bayrakli have unearthed a temple dedicated to Athena, a wall of the Ionian City and pottery dating to the third millennium B.C. as also been uncovered. The 2nd century Roman Agora or marketplace, the hill top Kadifekale fortress, the Saint Polycarp Church, the 18th century Ottoman inn called Kizlargasi Han, the Saat Kulesi or clock tower and the Ataturk Monument are some of the sights worth visiting.

The Hisar Mosque is the largest and oldest at Izmir built in 16th century and restored in the 19th century. Other mosques are Salepcioglu (20th century), Sadirvan (17th century with 19th century restorations) and Kemeralti (17th century).

Kulturpark, the main park in the city, offers many different activities. It has an amusement park, zoo, restaurants, quiet gardens and is the site for the International Izmir Fair. The Olof Palme Park has some sport facilities. Insan Haklari (Human Rights) Park has the lovely Flying Dolphin Monument.
